DEVELOPING FUTURE LEADERS OF INCLUSIVE ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING IN CENTRAL ASIA

From 17 to 20 February 2026, a programme of continuous professional development seminars was held in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, organised by the School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sussex in partnership with the Kazakhstan National Women’s Pedagogical University at the Bukhara State Pedagogical Institute and the Asian International University. Prof. Dr. Mergul Kulakhmetova and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aigul Akhmetova of EP “Foreign Language: two foreign languages” representing Pavlodar Pedagogical University named after Alkey Margulan took part in workshop-seminars.
The purpose of the following workshops was practical focus and design to model different pedagogic approaches, introduce key leadership skills and stimulate reflection and professional learning in Central Asia. The workshops in Bukhara were moderated by Professor Simon Thomson, Dr. Keith Perera, Professor Julia Sutherland, Dr Mariam Attia, Dr. Marcelo Staricoff, who shared their ambitions ideas and thoughts for taking inclusive English language learning forward within and beyond Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
