History

The history of formation of EP "Biology" counts more than 50 years and has passed through difficult stages of its development. Thus, in 1962 the Pedagogical Institute was organized in Pavlodar, the basis of which was formed by natural and physics and mathematics faculties. As a graduate, the Department of "Biology" in the period from 1970 to 1995, trained young specialists in the following specialties: "Biology and Chemistry", "Biology and Fundamentals of Agriculture" (BFA), "Physical Culture and Biology" (PCB) and others.

Since 1973 the Department was located in a specialized training building on 60/1 Mira St., equipped with new laboratories, lecture halls, technical facilities: TV sets and TV cameras, which could broadcast experiments in lecture halls. Relevance of biological education and confidence in the quality of training at that time confirms the fact that the competition for applicants was on average 5 people per 1 academic place. Repeatedly, the students of the department and faculty became winners of socialist competitions and received the passing banner of labor; at one time the Pavlodar Pedagogical Institute was among the top five pedagogical institutes of the Soviet Union.

Optimization of higher professional education (1996-2004) resulted in a number of organizational and substantive changes. For example, the Department of Biology became a structural subdivision of the Pedagogical Institute of Pavlodar State University named after S. Toraigyrov, a scientific school of Parasitology was formed (a postgraduate course was opened in the specialty 03.19.00 Parasitology / helminthology and a joint dissertation Council for the defense of a dissertation for the degree of candidate of biological Sciences), a block-modular training system was implemented.

In 2004, Pavlodar State Pedagogical Institute withdrew from the structure of PSU named after S. Toraigyrov. The Republican State Enterprise "Pavlodar State Pedagogical Institute" was established by the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan № 128 dated February 3, 2004. By the new academic year in PSPI already functioned 8 faculties and 29 departments, the magistracy and college were opened, release of two republican journals "Pedagogical bulletin of Kazakhstan" and "Biological sciences of Kazakhstan" began, besides PSPI becomes a republican experimental platform on approbation and introduction of a course "Self-knowledge", multimedia lecture complexes are created, the site of PSPI is opened.

From the moment of acquisition of PSPI independent status, since April 2004, the department "General biology" intensively developed in a direction of education informatization (the licensed software, connection to a local network, lecture multimedia complexes), introduction of credit technology of training, development of material and technical base of biological education. The bases for functioning of laboratory of system ecological researches, laboratory of biocenology (microscopic and computer technics, the analytical equipment), educational-scientific museum complex which included 4 sections (mineralogy and petrography, paleontology, zoology, archeology and ethnography) have been laid.

Today the Higher School of Natural History of the Pavlodar Pedagogical University is one of the leading educational, scientific and methodical centers of the North-East of the country as it provides high quality and wide range of educational services, introduces new technologies of education and expands the base of scientific researches, projects and programs of specialties development.

Currently, graduates of the Department freely compete in the employment market (average employment is 95-100%), successfully working in various sectors of the economy of Kazakhstan (education, environment and biodiversity, chemical and pharmaceutical industry).

Educational program "Biology" provides general universal education, profiling of senior level, updated content of education.

Annually, employees of higher school of natural sciences organize the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Actual problems of scientific knowledge". The aim of the conference is to discuss the theoretical, methodological, and practical foundations of science and science education in the conditions of substantial technological updating.

Cooperation on research work and academic mobility is carried out with universities of far and near abroad - Vytautas Magnus University (Kaunas, Lithuania), Tomsk Polytechnic University (Russia), Kassel University (Germany), Omsk State University named after F. Dostoevsky (Russia), East-Siberian State Academy of Education (Irkutsk, Russia), Altai State University (Barnaul, Russia).

Educational programs have repeatedly ranked high in the national rankings of EPs.

The graduates of EP will be able to work in the following areas:

• Education (biology teacher at secondary school, lyceum, gymnasium, college);
• management (departments of education, akimats, greening organizations, ecology, etc.);
• science (research organizations by profiles: botany, zoology, human anatomy, physiology, ecology, soil science, genetics, molecular biology, biotechnology, etc.).
